Do you ever wonder what you’re doing? Really, we can get so caught up with life that we just go on autopilot. Anyone who drives a car doubtlessly has experienced the scenario that you all the sudden realize you weren’t really paying attention for the last several blocks. All of a sudden, you snap out of it and start paying attention again. Most likely, you actually saw the traffic lights subconsciously, but it’s always a sobering experience.
We can be like that in the rest of life, too. We might go hours, days, months, even years not really thinking about what we’re doing. Sure, we think about what to eat for lunch, what to wear, how to deal with some situation with our spouses or children. But we don’t often stop to consider life’s biggest questions.
We make hundreds of decisions everyday. Many of them are too small to impact our lives to any great degree. But in reality some seemingly unassuming decisions greatly affect our lives. Things a simple as putting on our seat belt or having one more drink can make life or death differences.
What about the decision we make to continue working at a job or career we don’t like? This is really a decision we don’t make. We don’t make the decision to do whatever it takes to make a change. We just keep on going because it’s easier not to shake things up. Every now and then we might have a moment of consciousness when we ask ourselves, “What am I doing?”
That moment may be one of the most important moments of our lives. We have a chance to make a decision to make a change. But we need to act fast because it won’t last long. Soon we’ll be back in auto mode, and it will be a while before we come back to the question.
Don’t waste your moment. If there’s a nagging in you that all’s not well, start making some different decisions. One of the best decisions you’ll ever make is to live your call. If you’re ready, we’re here for you.
